1 Corinthians 13:4; John 13:34
Everyday, I try to start out my day by going over my “to-do” list. this is not my list of chores around the house, calls I have to make, or places I have to go. My “To-do” list is the things found all through the Bible that God expects from me as His child. Sadly, I have gotten lax about this and I really want to become more disciplined in doing this.
When I go over these lists in the morning, it helps me to be more focused on what God wants me to be doing and it helps me to have the right attitude, and then I make better decisions.
To help keep me accountable, I thought that I would share, each day, one item from my to-do list with all of you. When I focus on one item, I will look up verses having to do with the focus, pray about it, look for where I can do it and do it better throughout the day, confess where I have fallen short and make a plan to do better in the future, and now I will share with others what I am working on, and maybe some things that I have learned. I won’t be showing all that I am doing to study my focus point. No one wants to hear me drone on about my own thoughts and studies. This will be just what I am focusing on, maybe a little about it to act as a springboard for more thought and discussion.
Being that it is February, I have decided to focus on love. In John 13:34, we are commanded to “love one another”. It is definitely something that should be on our daily to-do list. But in order to love, we need to know what love is. In the age that we live in, there is a lot of confusion over what love is, so I thought that I would go to 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 to find the definition of love. I use this definition of love as part of my to-do list. If I do the things that define love, then I am doing things that God wants me to do. I am treating people the way that God wants me to treat people. I am being a better reflection of Him.
Love is PATIENT.
Patient is my word for the day. In my KJV Bible, it says “charity (another word for love) sufferers long” which adds another dimension to the idea of patience.
I have a lot of opportunities to show patience and to be patient in my day to day life. I know that I will be met with opportunities all during the day, and into the night, to show God’s love in the form of patience. I purpose to learn to greet the opportunities to be patient with gratefulness as I remember what a blessing it is to be able to be a small reflection of the patience that God has with all of us because of His great love for us.
